Benefits of Green Building
At Arlington Designer Homes, we are committed to green home construction, and believe that green building offers environmental, economic and health benefits for our customers and our community.
 |
Environmental benefits of green building include increased energy efficiency and a reduction in harmful emissions, decreased runoff that can cause erosion, flooding and water pollution, and a reduction in the large amount of solid waste generated by standard home construction practices.
Standard construction practices can lead to poor indoor environmental air quality, caused by mold build-up, toxic materials and pollutants, off-gassing, and insufficient air circulation. Green building emphasizes ventilation and non-toxic, low emitting materials that create healthier and more comfortable living environments. |
A common misunderstanding about green building is that it is too expensive to be economically feasible. But studies have shown that the costs of green homes are not substantially higher than standard projects. Higher construction costs can often be avoided by including green design from the outset of the project, and, even more importantly, green homes provide an a number of economic advantages that can actually save homeowners money over the long term. Green homes can create significant energy and water savings, and most green features will pay for themselves within a fairly short time period, and will then begin “earning” money for the homeowner. Green homes and buildings also generally have higher resale values than standard homes.
