In 2010, Arlington Designer Homes received the first ever Gold-level Green Building Certification in Arlington from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). This new, custom-built green home, located on Underwood St. in North Arlington, was only the sixth house in the state of Virginia to be certificated at the Gold level. The home also received a HERS score (home energy rating) of 55, meaning it is 45% more energy efficient than a standard new home on the market today. Take a video tour of the house.
More recently, in early 2011, we received the first Gold-level Green Building Certification in Falls Church, for a beautiful and energy-efficient new home on West Street.
Both of these elegant, luxurious new homes include numerous unique green features that reduce energy costs. But to achieve this level of green certification, we also had to incorporate green practices during every step of the design and construction process, from selecting a lot close to public transportation, to recycling over 75% of leftover construction materials and waste, to installing geo-thermal heating and air conditioning. The National Green Building certification process includes inspections and review of lot and site development, resource efficiency, energy efficiency, water efficiency, indoor environmental quality, and homeowner education. |
